Domaine Patrice Rion

Domaine Patrice et Michèle Rion

The domaine was launched in 1990 from a few parcels that Patrice and his wife Michèle owned separately. It really took off when Patrice left the business. Daniel Rion's estate to set up on his own in 2000, building a cellar and winery on his property to offer a number of cuvées for the wine trade. Maxime, their son, joined them after completing his oenology studies. In 2006, the domaine was enlarged with the addition of Chardonnay vines on the premier cru nuiton Les Terres Blanches, a few extra rows of Argillières and the monopoly of Clos Saint-Marc (previously produced by Bouchard Père & Fils). It also offers "amoureuses" and "bonnes-mares" thanks to a double contract of lease and purchase of grapes from a small estate in the area. Chambolle-Musigny.

The bunches are sorted on two sorting tables, one before destemming, the other after. The intact grapes are conveyed to stainless steel vats for a vatting period of around three weeks. That's seven days at 11-12°C, followed by two weeks of fermentation at a maximum of 32°C. There are now two ageing cellars to allow each vintage to age for eighteen months without racking. Most cuvées are aged in 50% new barrels.

clos des argilieres
Clos des Argilieres

Nuits-St-Georges 1er cru "Clos des Argillières Intense, rather dark color. Powerful, highly complex aromas: fruity notes of blackberry, blackcurrant and blueberry. Juniper and hawthorn recall a rather wild side. Discreet on the nose when young, but the class is there. On the palate, the wine is concentrated and elegant. The tannins are fine, yet a certain firmness accompanies this Nuits-St-Georges. Incredible minerality continues right through to the finish. Keep between 7 and 15 years.

Cote de Nuits-Village Vieilles Vignes
Cote de Nuits-Village Vieilles Vignes

Côte de Nuits-Village Vieilles Vignes Here, we find all the aromas to which a Côte de Nuits can aspire. However, its structure is quite fine compared to other local appellations. Good value for money, and ideal for tasting in its early years. Superb purple color, with brightness. Imposing notes of red fruit, such as raspberry and morello cherry. On the palate, you'll find a very supple attack thanks to round tannins. It's a pleasant wine to drink, with a lovely freshness. Drink it young, after 2 to 8 years.

Vougeot 1er Cru Les Cras
Vougeot 1er Cru Les Cras

Vougeot 1er Cru "Les Cras The depth of this brilliant color is impossible to miss. A nose of red berries with hints of morello cherry.
Highly concentrated on the attack. The material is dense, but the tannins remain round. Concentrated on the palate, this wine persists thanks to its minerality, leading to incredible complexity. We recommend cellaring for 5 to 15 years before drinking.

Chambolle Musigny Les Cras
Chambolle Musigny Les Cras

Chambolle-Musigny "Les Cras The plot is located at the top of the locality, on very light soil. Yet the wine seems dark, intense and ages well. A deep, brilliant color. Fruity notes, with redcurrant dominating the aromas. A complex wine that develops notes of white pepper and is accompanied by a beautiful freshness. A certain density of substance, original for a village appellation. A frank attack for this straightforward wine. The minerality is highly developed in this wine, helping to guide the wine towards the finish and stretch it out in length. Wait 5-15 years before drinking.

Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Gruenchers
Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Gruenchers

Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Gruenchers Another fine wine with a deep, dark color and great intensity. The nose will impress you with its sudden hints of jam and black cherry. The richness on the palate is inescapable, with fullness and very imposing tannins, certainly the most tannic of the Chambolle wines. Yet the tannins are made of velvet. A power in this wine, which fuses with elegance, and refines with age. Keep it for a while, 7 to 15 years before drinking.

Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes
Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes

Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Charmes The main characteristic of this Chambolle from Patrice Rion is finesse. Also depth, with silky, elegant tannins that are sure to charm. This is a wine with great personality, which can be explained by the age of the vines (60 years). The color is ruby, deep and brilliant. Incredibly fruity, with red fruits including raspberry and morello cherry. On the palate, the wine's high concentration is evident from the outset. High density, with rather silky tannins, common to Chambolle. The minerality makes this wine complex and charming. Keep for 5 to 15 years.

Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Amoureuses A deep ruby color, once again brilliant. A discreet nose that intensifies with time. Notes of violets and spices soon emerge. The aromatic side of this wine can become very complex and rich with time, and will astonish you when mature. It's on the palate that you'll be amazed, with the velvety smoothness of this silky, delicate wine. The wine's feminine side is particularly noteworthy. What sets it apart? Quite simply, its extraordinary length. It's incredible, both airy and subtle. The Amoureuses vineyard is the epitome of elegance and finesse. Keep it for 7 to 15 years, then drink it with love, or at least as a lover.
